Expectations for Warhawk II

Warhawk II is a hypothetical game. It is thought to be planned for the PlayStation 4. I have some expectations for the game:

  • Custom maps.
  • Create servers that can hold up to 120 people.
  • More customization of vehicles and troopers.
  • Create your own teams.
  • Introduction of attack helicopters, missile vehicles and drones.
  • Equip turrets in airplanes and helicopters.

Warhawk 2 got flagged to me by a friend today and I found this forum.

Personally, I think the map and server sizes were already perfect for Warhawk's style. You were never too far from other players, but it was possible to avoid combat for sneaking to an objective. Capture the Flag modes (simply the best) forced a bit of a treck and provided enough distance to cover for a lot of interceptions and general carnage surrounding the flag carrier, but they weren't so long that a capture was impossible, just difficult.

I agree with the customisation point - having a unique paint scheme on your fighter aircraft let you develop a reputation as an ace throughout the course of a game (if you were a good pilot). I had so much fun getting into fighter duels with certain players. That stands as its own point, however. If they ever bring back Warhawk, I hope they don't change a damn thing about the air combat, or, at least, too much.

Considering the ability to create your own teams: multiple team games could actually allow for larger maps and servers to work quite nicely. It would be interesting to see perhaps 4 different factions fighting over a single capture point in the centre, while some people make a covert raid into enemy bases capturing base flags.

As for new vehicles - a dedicated self-propelled anti-aircraft gun would be ideal. Missile vehicles, like you say. Attack helicopters would be difficult to implement, considering the jets' speed and firepower, but they could be much tougher to compensate and even make use of the ability to transport ground vehicles as the dropships (from DLC Operation Omega Dawn) did. It would make them great for dedicated air support for ground troops and tanks (not to mention, being able to hover in one spot without being destroyed too quickly would let them actually use the air to surface missiles to decent effect). They could even use the same pick-ups as the jets, just like the dropships did. Three spare seats for a co-pilot (with their own canon, Battlefield 4 style) and two door gunners and you've got yourself a potent machine.

Anyway, just thought I'd get this thread going. Warhawk was the best multiplayer experience I've ever had and it would be great to see another release. Even though it's unlikely, it's nice to be able to talk about it just for nostalgia's sake.
